I am a Welsh composer, audio engineer, and researcher, making music which seeks to cross stylistic boundaries between Anglo-Welsh traditional music, popular music, and contemporary Classical repertoire. I also have an active interest in both the theory and practice of music and narrative, a topic which is the focus of a number of my compositional and academic outputs. I am a keen producer and mix engineer, I have composed soundtracks for several films, short and full-length – you can find out more about these soundtracks, and how I can help on your next media project, here.
Within my work, and creative output, as a composer, I am particularly interested in:
– The identity-forming process of compositional engagement with existing repertoire
– The interaction of Western art music with folk music and culture
– Music and narrative
– Creative studio techniques
I am also a pianist, cellist, guitarist and singer.
I am a keen educator, both as a university lecturer and as a private tutor, and hold the status of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I lecture in composition and sound design at University of Gloucestershire School of Creative Arts, across a range of BA and MSc programmes. I am also an alumnus of the teaching staff at Cardiff University.
